Where The Wild Things Are

I love children's books. Especially the ones from my childhood which have special memories behind them. I think almost everyone has read Where The Wild Things Are when they were a kid and if you haven't, what the hell is wrong with you? It is one of my favourite childhood stories and I am absolutely thrilled to see that it is finally being made into a movie. The trailer is so amazing, the wild things look exactly how they are suppose to. I love the song by Arcade Fire, Wake Up, which is featured in the trailer. It fits the movie perfectly. So now you know what film I will be seeing on October 16th.

World Traveler

How many of us can claim that we have done anything of great signifigance by the ripe old age of seventeen? Not very many, except for Zac Sunderland and a few other lucky individuals. If you haven't heard of Zac Sunderland, shame on you! He has just recently become the youngest person, at age seventeen to circumnavigate around the world by himself. I had herd about Zac's daring attempt first while watching the news when he first set out on his journey. I was amazed that someone so young (who is close in age to me none the less) would have the courage to do something so extraordinary. I forgot about him for a few months until he was on the cover of ESPN magazine (please don't ask why my family subscribes to it, seeing as I don't even have a brother), when I was promptly reminded about him. I was fascinated by the article, and so ever since then I have been following Zac's journey on his blog. Its amazes me that for someone so young, Zac has experienced more adventure then most people do in their lives. Sometimes though it makes me a bit sad to realize I haven't even done anything that great yet, when reading about people like him, but then I am promptly reminded that I will do something great; just give me time!

Nostalgia

Sometimes I think life was "simpler" and "more carefree" when I was younger during the 90's and early 2000's. I was reading an article on the NY Times website about Generation Y, and how everyone seems to be nostalgic for the days when we were younger and the world was more innocent. I love reminiscing with my friends about bands like the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and S Club 7 (in fact one of my friends still has her S Club 7 tape!), Tamagatchi, Saved By The Bell, The Fresh Prince, ect. Though, perhaps the world wasn't more innocent then, we just viewed the world with more innocent eyes. People are far too weary about everything now days; so come on, take a trip down memory lane to jog your memories of when "things were better" by cracking out your old tapes and Cd's (which I know you still have, everyone does) or watching a favourite TV show. Then after that, remember that they aren't gone, you can always re-visit them when ever you need a boost.

Vent

Okay I need to rant somewhere about being stressed, and I figure that my blog is a pretty darn good place to do it. Normally, I don't get very personal on here, I mean most people don't want to read about other peoples issues, when they are trying to deal with their own. I have been looking forward to the college enrollment process, and senior year experiences for sometime, but now that it is upon me; not so much! I never realized how much pressure their is to figure out what school you want to spend the next four years of your life at and what major you want to study. My head is swirling around with lots of ideas and thoughts, they wont just stick to one plan! Here's just a snippet of whats going on in my head on a daily bases; I'm going to study journalism, wait no, photography, how about journalism again, what about liberal arts, sociology is cool! I swear, its been like this for the last few months, and I have a feeling its only going to get worse. I love to take photographs, to write, and enjoy observing people and keeping up to date on whats in the news around the globe. Its just a shame that I cant combine all three into one major, then I would be a happy camper. For awhile I was so sure that I was going to be a journalist, but then I started doubting my self, then I thought that Photography would be good (much to my parents dismay), and my mom is sort of hinting that she thinks I would be best fit in majoring in Liberal Arts or Sociology. I don't know what to choose, since I could see myself studying all four majors. Now, on to the matter of colleges themselves. People put a lot of pressure on what schools you should apply to/attend, with an emphasis on schools with a "name". For instance, I was telling my Auntie M (this is from the women who attended Yale) that I was looking at a small Liberal Arts school in her state, when she scoffed at me saying "it wasn't a very good school". Of course once she said that, I haven't looked at it since, since her opinion of the school changed my opinion of the school as well. As much as I am moaning about the college application process, I wouldn't trade it for the world, since I know its my ticket out of Doge!

The Boy Who Lived

This post is completely dedicated to my love for a very special boy, his name is Harry. Harry Potter to be exact, perhaps you have herd of him? I saw the sixth movie the day it was released here in the states, boy oh boy, it was a treat! First off let me state my opinion of books being made into movies; in order to enjoy both the book and the movie you must view them as two separate forms of entertainment because if you don't then you shall be disappointed with both outcomes. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the sixth movie, I felt that they conveyed much of the important scenes in the book as they could but still giving its own spin on things. I was so happy that Rupert Grint (Ron, for all of you who aren't in the know) has perfect comedic timing, since much of his scenes in this movie were all comedy. In fact I feel that in sense Rupert was the breakout star of the film, since in the first five movies he isn't given the chance to shine in his specialty; comedy. Though of course I still feel that Daniel Radcliffe did a superb job as Harry, as always (I hope I don't sound to bias, considering my admiration for him). It was nice to sit in the theater and be surrounded by Harry and the gang once again, to be reminded of why I love them so.
