Vogue India

So today I was perusing the American Vogue's website, when I spied at the bottom of the page, Vogues international sites (really, I'm telling you all the best stuff in life is where no one looks!). So I clicked on Vogue India, just out of interest (plus, I have always wanted to go to India, so anytime I can get my "India" fix whether its through food or movies, I take that opportunity) and what I found blew my mind away! First off the magazines website, is in English, which is extremely helpful for someone who doesn't speak any of the hundreds of languages spoken in India (except for English, its my native language). Then I noticed, at the bottom of the page (again!) that Freida Pinto was on this months cover! I just about died when I saw that she was on the cover, I just loved her in Slumdog Millionaire (but of course you already probably know that since I've ranted about it several times on here!) plus she's got great personal style. Now I'm craving the issue of Vogue India (is it a good sign to be "craving" a magazine? I'm not so sure that it is...), and I am almost willing to do anything to get in my hands. So if you have a copy, please let me know! Or if you just have scans of the issue with her on the cover, please send them my way!
Jem
P.S. The pictures are from an issue of Vogue India, with the lovely model Gemma Ward and photographed by Patrick Demarchelier which I found while browsing the Internet. Aren't all the photo's stunning? I've been a fan of Demarchelier's work for a while now, but this is just a perfect editorial. Everything is just so beautifully done. My only wish is that perhaps they should have used an Indian model, or at least someone who is a little bit more ethnically diverse then the model that they picked, then the pictures would be perfect! But I shall save the topic of "diversity in the fashion world" for another time, when I am more awake, right now I'm falling asleep at my desk!

And The Oscar Goes To...

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!!!
As you probably already know (unless of course you have been living under a rock) is that Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner of the night at the Academy Awards. The movie took home 8 Oscars, quite a feet for a movie that not to long ago most people had not even herd of! Personally I just think that they deserved every single award that they won, it is by far the best film I have seen this year, perhaps ever. The first picture is of the lovely Freida Pinto and Dev Patel, the stars of the film, don't they just look lovely? Not everyone was crazy about Pinto's dress, but I rather liked it. There's not much to say about how Dev looked other then, fantastic (but I think I am rather partial to him sooo... of course he's going to look good!). The second picture is of the cast of the movie being interviewed, wasn't wonderful to see everyone who had a major part in the film all in one place? The last Photo I found on the Internet, it was taken on a beach in Mumbai (I'm not definite about the exact whereabouts that it was taken though... sorry!), I just thought it was so well done, that I had to share it with you. So congratulations to the people who made Slumdog Millionaire, such an enjoyable and meaningful film to watch!

Reik

First off I want to apologize for not blogging for several days, but it seems that winter break was a lot more busy then I anticipated. I also want to apologize in advance for doing what might seem like a repeat of my my last post but I have something amazing to share with you! I was just listening to the radio on my computer (yeah, I listen to the radio instead of itunes, what do you have a problem with that?) on the Latino/Spanish station, when I heard an amazing song. The song is called Noviembre Sin Ti by a Spanish band, Reik. I liked what I herd, it is very "calm" sounding, if that makes any sense. Once again I have found a singer/band who I can't understand a word of what they are saying, but for some reason I find listening to songs in different languages to be beautiful. It is kind of relaxing when you can't understand what is being said since it gives you more time to concentrate on other things, like reading a good book! Anyways, Mad and I are getting together today, which will be nice since we have not seen each other since last Saturday! We have a reason for getting together today though, since she shall be my model and I shall be the photographer (basically I have to take photos for my photography class in school, and she volunteered to help me out!). I hope that the photos turn out good, that way I can get an A!

International Singers

Yesterday I was at my friend "A" house when we decided to go on Youtube, just for fun. We started off by looking up funny "fail" videos, some of them are so hilarious! Then one of us suggested that we look up Spanish singers, what we found was fantastic. I don't take Spanish as a language in school, where as the rest of my friends do, so some of them were already familiar with some of the singers. Our favorite person that we found was David Bisbal, who was on a Spanish version of British Pop Idol (or here in the states, American Idol), and let me tell you; he is amazingly good! I don't understand a word he is saying, yet I can still appricate his vocal talent. Plus he's quite easy on the eyes, don't you think? He is not the only singer who speaks in a foreign tongue who I am a huge fan of. Another favourite of mine is Yael Niem, who you might have herd of since her song "New Soul" was featured on an Apple commerical. I just love that she sings in a mixture of English, French, and Hebrew. Which is fantastic since I can understand almost all of her lyrics since I speak bit of all three languages. I wish that she would have a lot more success in the American music business, the same with David Bisbal. I mean once you make it in the American music industry then you can make it almost anywhere in the world. Both singers are huge stars in there own country, but some how haven't gotten enough attention in the united states.
Jem
P.S. My favourite Bisbal songs are "Ave Maria" and "Buleria", both are fantastic. Check them out on Youtube!

Slumdog Millionaire

Today I finally got to see Slumdog Millionaire, after much waiting and anticipation. And let me just tell you it totally lives up to all the hype its getting! I went with my friend A and my mummy, after last weekend when we tried to see the movie but then we couldn't get the tickets. It was totally worth waiting for though, I think it might be one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is so well filmed, it really depicted the poverty stricken area of Mumbai accurately. I loved every moment of the film, I really connected with characters, especially Jamal (who your rooting for throughout the whole movie) and what there lives are like. The heart of the story is essentially a truly great love story. Dev Patel, who plays Jamal, was just fantastic! I am really looking foreword to seeing what Dev Patel does next and I will be rooting for him all along the way too. There are not enough words to describe the film, so please go and see it for yourself, so you can understand why it is so freakn' fantastic!

p.s. I am totally going to be supporting it at the Oscars! I hope it does extremely well.

V-Day Movie Playlist!

I love nothing more then a good o'l love story, and it seems to me the only way I can get one is through watching movies. I have created a list of some of my favourite romance movies of all time, right on time for valentines day!
1) Ever After- This is one of my all time favorites, I can quote whole lines from the movie! I just love how its a twist on the classic "Cinderella" story, at one point in the movie, Danielle, saves her prince from gypsies! Now that is a truly modern "Cinderella", set in a very un-modern time period!
2)Never Been Kissed- Another Drew Barrymore movie (I just love her!) movie. Don't you just love the scene at the end where Josie is waiting for Sam on the baseball field with everyone watching her? I think its terribly brave of Josie to do that... me I'm not so sure I would have (but I guess, that's what one does for love).
3)Pride and Prejudice- I love the one with Kira Knightly, it's a classic story and a classic movie in my opinion. Jane Austen is an amazing writer and I just love how they filmed the movie. I mean who doesn't love Darcy?
4)Elizabeth Town- This might be one of the most under-rated romance movie of all time, since it doesn't get the acknowledgement it deserves. It is the story about a guy named Drew, who's father dies and on the way to retrieve his belongings he meets Claire, a stewardess. What follows is a witty tale about love, at a time when you least expect it. Please, I am begging you, rent it. You won't be disappointed.
5)The Wedding Singer- Okay, so perhaps its a little bit extreme to have three Drew Berrymore movies on one list, but what can I say, I love her movies! Plus Adam Standler is in the movie, and I love him a lot too. I just love it when he sings to her on the plane, the song is ridiculously funny yet heartwarming at the same time. When you listen to the lyrics though you realize that's the kind of love that people dream of having, someone to grow old with.
6) Bride and Prejudice- A Bollywood version of P&P starring the insanely gorgeous Aishwarya Rai. I just love this movie, its directed by the same women who also directed Bend It Like Beckham (another one of my fave movies). I just can't get over how wonderful this movie is, I love the acting, the music, all the colours, the clothes, just everything about this movie!
So please enjoy this movie playlist, and remember share this day with someone you love, whether it be with, your family, friends, or someone else special.

Jason Wu

So this post is completely devoted to how much I am in love with Jason Wu. I absolutely love his new collection, the clothes are to die for. I picked out some of my favourite looks from the collection, though I will admit that it was hard to choose which ones I wanted to show on this blog. Anyways, a lot of the collection was clothes which I could see our lovely First lady wearing (especially the last four looks). Don't you think she would look lovely wearing one of these looks when greeting foreign heads of states? I just want to wear everything which was in the collection, even if I don't have a reason to wear them. Couldn't you just see me walking around the grocery store, in one of his fancy frocks? It would be quite a sight!

New York Fashion Week

This is just a quickly post, since I really should be doing other work right now, not being distracted by the wonderful Internet. But anyways, the point of this post is to remind everyone that ny fashion week starts tomorrow (as if anyone needed a reminder!)! yay! I am terribly excited for it, and cannot wait to review the collections on Style.com, since sadly I can't go to fashion week (though its not even like I could even get in anyways....). I envy anyone who even has a chance to see one show, I have no doubt it will be amazing.

"Six Words or Less"

Today for homework my sociology teacher gave us an unusual assignment. He asked us to write down in six words or less, who we are, and what we define ourselves as. I think this might have been one of the hardest homework assignments which I've ever had (and trust me I've had a lot!), but it also was one of the most rewarding ones I've ever done too. He posted a link on his website, which led to this totally cool site called Smith Magazine (I posted the link on the sidebar). The website asks people to write down in six words or less, to tell a story about themselves. Some of them are sad, some are thought provoking, and some are just laugh out loud funny. But regardless, each and every "story" which someone posts, tell's a little bit about themselves. I am officially hooked on this site, having spent the last half and hour perusing, when I should have been making myself dinner. So please check out the site and maybe you will leave a story for others to discover? I thought I would share with you some of the six words or less, which I have discovered, and Which have resontated with me deeply.

  • Discarded map, took road less traveled.
  • Dreamed the word. Woke up.
  • Aspiring writer: Aced english, failed geometry (trust me I can relate with this one... math is not my strong suit!)
  • After Harry Potter, things got weird.

Come Light My Candle....

There are two ways of spreading light:
to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
~Edith Wharton
Don't you just love this quote? Its by the amazing Edith Wharton, who I once wrote a paper on for my english class. Right now were reading Ethan Frome in class, and I'm really enjoying the novel. Don't you just find these cupcake candles just darling? They are from Urban Outfitters, and on sale right now for four bucks a pop!

Don't Do It....

The worst mistake
anyone can make is
being too afraid to
make one. ~ unknown
The photo is by the amazingly gifted Tim Walker, you might have seen it in Vogue awhile ago. I just love it and I couldn't resist showing to you. It might not really have anything to do with the quote but... who cares, since it's stunningly gorgeous to look at.

Youth Icon

I am partial to Emma Watson's wardrobe choices, maybe its because I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but I like to think it is because she makes such great style choices. She always dresses in a youthful yet in a classic manner. Have you ever had a celebrity who you thought, "god I wish I could raid there wardrobe!", well Emma is just that person for me. I just love everything that she wears, I want it all! Sometimes when I'm having one of those days where nothing I put on works, I revert to thinking "what would Emma wear?" It may seem childish to do so, but I find it oh so helpful in keeping me from going insane from the issues I might be having with what I am wearing. So next time your having one of "those days", just think about who's style you admire and then try to emulate it. It works every time, I promise!

Coco and Me!

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

~Coco Chanel

Today's quote is from the wonderful and world renowned Coco Chanel. She is an inspiration to all that are interested in fashion; she went from nothing to creating one of the most successful companies in the world and one of the most recognized labels too. So lets hear it for the double C! Thank you for single handily creating some of the most important essentials for the modern woman's wardrobe!

Age of Innocence

In this months Elle Magazine issue they have this wonderful photo spread, titled Age of Innocence. I could not stop staring at the photographs, they make me want to only wear pastel colours, dance outside (if only it wasn't so dang freezing), and have a tea party. In other words they evoke memories of my childhood, although I never wore such cool outfits as the ones featured in the article. So let out your inner child by wearing completely pastel coloured outfits and have a romp around outside (unless of course its snowing outside, which in that case I wouldn't recommend that, you don't want to get frost bite!).

Single Ladies!

I'm sure you've all seen Beyonce's music video Single Ladies where she dances around in a leotard. I love that song it has a great beat! Anyways the other day I made a video of me doing her dance while wearing a leotard and lets just say I'm not the best dancer. I showed this video to two of my friends and they thought it was hilarious, so then me, my sister and three of our friends put leotards on and danced with Beyonce. It's quite fun and I highly recommend trying it! So I thought I'd leave you with a video of the man who inspired us: Cubby as well as Beyonce's original video. I won't put my video up because it's waaaaay to embarrassing.

Both of these videos are from YouTube.

Lets Get Alittle Shakespeare in Here!

"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness trust upon them."

This is one of my all time favourite quotes ever!!!! The photo is from my trip to the Keys.

What a Weekend

This weekend I was cooped up in my house, resting after having a minor foot surgery. So whats a girl to do when she can't do anything? Why watch lots of television of course! This weekend I rediscovered my love for America's Next Top Model and Tennis. On Saturday I just bummed around, watching whatever movies happened to be on the telly. Today was a more successful day, in terms of Television watching. There was a ANTM season 10 (I think?) Marathon on Oxygen which I happily indulged in. It seems to me that the show started going down the tube after the 10th season, so Tyra, get your act together and bring back ANTM to its former glory. In between watching ANTM episodes I watched the Australian Open, the men's finals. And let me tell you, it was epic! I love, love, love Rafael Nadal with all my heart. So to see him play against Roger Federer was a real treat for me, it definitely made my weekend. I love a good Federer-Nadal match and this one was no different. Though I have to say it might have been epic, but no where as epic as the Wimbledon match, last year which was probably the most epic tennis match ever (in my opinion). To top it off, Nadal won!!!!!! So yes my weekend might have been a little bit lame compared to everyone else's but... hey I got to catch up on my T.V. watching! I hadn't watched that much T.V. in ages, it felt good to be a boob tube. I leave you now with a picture of the amazingly good looking Nadal, and the man who he crushed to pieces to enjoy!
